A faith-based organization has provided mobility wheelchairs and start up kiosk products to over 5000 people living with disability across the country.

Partners for Care organization said it has continued to eliminate unnecessary suffering by offering mobility devices and enhancing economic empowerment to thousands of vulnerable persons.

Sammy Wanjau, the Executive Director for the organization while donating mobility devices to PLWDs in Kiambaa and Ruiru sub counties said that the vulnerable groups are sometimes forgotten and through great partnerships with other stakeholders, they are able to have a sustainable program of helping them out.

“The PLWDs sometimes undergo untold sufferings occasioned by lack of mobility devices. We have continued to empower them economically so that they can be able to depend on themselves and support their families,” said Wanjau.

The wheelchairs donated by the organization have carriage compartments and water coolers and start up products such as sweets, sodas, water, toilet papers, facemasks and sanitizers which the disabled persons are expected to sell so that they can kick start their business from wherever they are.

The foundation has partnered with First lady Margret Kenyatta, Mobility worldwide, friends of disabled adults and children (FODAC), county governments, Raymond Kuria foundation, Kiambu county disability network and churches.

Mary Wanganga from partners of care said that though the government has put effort into catering for the disabled, parents continue to hide their disabled children at home thereby denying them their rights to education.

“We continue to encourage parents to expose their disabled children to the public for integration with the community and so that they can also access education like other children,” said Wanganga.

Beneficiaries of the wheelchair donations called upon the government to adopt a special system to identify the disabled so as to benefit from different cadres of government funding.
