Rev. Mel West
Mel has dedicated his life to service, starting and leading multiple mission projects. In recognition of his tireless efforts, he has received numerous accolades, including an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Missouri and Rotary International’s Excellence in Service to Humanity award. His latest book, One Damned Good Horse: Stories, Wit, and Wisdom, showcases his rich life experiences and insights, with all proceeds supporting the production of Mobility Carts.
Mel’s Book: One Damned Good Horse: Stories, Wit, and Wisdom
Rev. Mel West’s book, One Damned Good Horse, is a compilation of his writings, from growing up to starting mission projects, alongside his wisdom and wit. The book is available for $20, and all proceeds go towards building more Mobility Carts.
How to Purchase
- In Person: Stop by the shop Monday to Friday from 8 AM to 3 PM to pick up a copy for $20.
- By Mail: Send a check for $25 (includes shipping) and indicate the number of books in the memo line (e.g., “2 books”). Additional donations are welcome, and receipts will be provided.

The Mel & Barbara West Cart Center
In August 2020, the Mel & Barbara West Cart Center became fully operational, with a 12,500 square foot shop producing Mobility Carts. Generous benefactors covered the construction costs, and the building now houses two mission projects under their 501(c)(3) umbrella:
- Mobility Worldwide MO – Columbia
- The Sewing Machine Project
Each project operates independently with its own funding.
Awards & Recognition
May 2024 brings 100th birthday celebration.
In May, our founder, Rev. Mel West, turned 100. We had a birthday party and open house to commemorate. Hundreds of persons from across the country came to wish him well
